Hormi les sociétés privées comme DHL ou UPS (listées plus bas), il existe trois solutions pour envoyer un paquet ou une lettre depuis une poste thaïlandaise (voir photo). Il s'agit respectivement d'EMS pour les plis urgent (délai environ 72 heures pour l'Europe et l'Amérique du nord), de la poste aérienne (environ une semaine) et de la poste "normale" (delais...). Chacun a sa propre tarification et son propre découpage géographique en zones distinctes. A noter que EMS fait une distinction entre lettres et paquets, tout comme la poste dite normale qui en plus propose 3 tarifs: par avion (environ 1 semaine), par bateau (environ 1 mois) et par bateau lent (jusqu'a 3 mois).

S'il s'agit juste d'éviter de payer une surcharge de bagage a l'aéroport, mieux vaut négocier avec votre compagnie aérienne à l'avance ou envoyer le surplus en fret, beaucoup moins onnéreux.

 Apart from private companies like UPS or DHL, there are 3 solutions to send a letter or parcel from a post office (see picture) in Thailand: EMS (about 72 hours to North America and Europe), airmail (about a week) and surface mail (...). Each system uses its own price list and zoning system. Please not that there is a distinction between letters and parcels for each system. Normal mail is availbale with 3 options (not for all countries): air, surface and slow surface.

If your only intention is to avoid a luggage surcharge when checking in at the airport, you may prefer to negotiate directly in advance with the airline or at least send whatever is needed by airfreight (much cheaper).

Mail box facilities are available at all the main post offices throughout the country. You will be charged a small fee and need to show your passport. You should ask the people writing to put your sir-name in capitals and underline it as the mail may be filed under your first name instead of your sir-name.

The Central Post Office in Thailand is located on Charoen Krung (New) Road, Bangkok. The main post offices are open from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday and 8.00 am to 1.00 pm on weekends and public holidays. Small branches are open from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm on weekdays, and 9.00 am to 12.00 am on Saturdays.
